And So It Begins!

The Tigers are now back in action. The offseason has been an interesting one too. As you may know the "Tigs" (tie-gs) have acquired Gary Sheffield from the New Yor Yankees. The 19 year veteran came to Detroit in light of some "disagreements" with the Yankees clubhouse. He is considered to be one of the fastest bats/quickest hands (wrists) in MLB. However, let's be honest here it is not like he is getting any younger and if I am correct on this I believe he had surgery on those quick hands/wrists last year. This might leave him a little slower? Anyway, all indications from Manager Jim Leyland seem to point to nothing but excitement for the All-Star and his abilities.

In other notes, Jeremy Bonderman signed a 38 million dollar deal, which will leave him in Detroit for atleast 4 more seasons. Bonderman was awesome in the Postseason last year and added much to the Tigs overall changes. Bonderman seems to be worth his weight in gold, or in this case green, and lots of it. He is working hard to add a deadly change-up to his pitching arsonal. If this happens he will perhaps not only win games for Detroit, but may very well dominate.
So far the Tigers beat the Mets 1-0 in the first unofficial outing of the pre-season.

All I can say, once again is, Play on Playaz.

What is the vibe back there about the tigers season? Is the local talk radio buzz positive? Perhaps a repeat of the AL Championship?

Great to know and hear about the growth in the Fam. I always treasure hearing about it.

AT, I am fired up about this season, as I have for the past 20+ seasons. Last year was awesome, but can we make it to the end and win? I think that we will have a pretty good year, because we basically have the same team plus Sheffield. Regular season tickets go on sale on Saturday, and I am going to see if I can get my hands on some. They say that season tickets are up over 50% from last year. It is probably all of those bandwagon fans (jerks!) trying to be a part of something great.

Also, I think you should trust me on my predictions, if you go back to your June 2006 blog on the Tigers, I picked the Tigers v. Cardinals.

Go Get'em, Detroit Tigers!!!!

Kudos on your MLB picks! You da man. But hey, don't be hatin' on the bandwagon fans they add to the hype and frenzy of the game. According to Stephen, Mo-Town could use the hype and excitement around the Tigs. The Lions always have, currently do, and always will be crappy. However, I don't want to down play or ignore the Wings. They are currently 2nd(?) in the Central.
By the way I may have to become a bandwagoner (perhaps you and Stephen will as well)by way of moving. If I (we) end up in Pittsburgh I (we) will have to convert to Penguins, Steelers and POSSIBLY the Pirates sports clubs.
Fortunately, the Pirates suck, so I (we) can still make it to games without any problem, as won't be the case with the Tigers games soon, if not already.

P.S. I do like the physical play of the Penguins. I have had a chance to watch this young group play a bit on NBC and they play tough. I like how they treat forsberg, even though he beats the crap out 'em. :)

This is the controversial post. This was dug up out my Archives from last June.

"Watch out for the Cardinals. If Pujols is at 100% in August, they have the experience to go far. As far as the Tigers go. I am as die hard as they come. I endured the 119 loss season. (Baylor the Mets hold the alltime loss record with 120 losses, so take that). I am excited to see them doing so well, however, we really have not proved ourselves against some of the top franchises, Sox (white & red) and the Yanks. These are mentally much needed wins. Verlander -- rookie of the year??? Go Tigers!"

There you have it.

I cant believe AT is trying to get people fired up about Hockey. I am just going to say it, Hockey sucks!!! The wings have dominated the game and i cant even remeber passing any of their games as i was channel surfing. I understand why you watch it though AT. You only got 3 channels and it is better that watching Gilmore Girls reruns.
